Drums & Dinner: Beats and Eats Drum Circle
Drums and Dinner: Let’s Play the Beats and Have Good Eats!
Hosted by Whole Life Rhythm
As the first days of spring arrive, we gather once again in rhythm and community to celebrate the turning of the season.
During the winter months, our weekly community drum circle shifts into a once-a-month gathering, making these circles especially meaningful. They give us an opportunity to reconnect, warm one another through music and fellowship, and welcome the renewed energy of spring together.
We are excited to gather on Sunday, April 26th, from 3:00–5:00 PM for our Whole Life Rhythm Community Drum Circle, followed by a shared community potluck feast.
With spring returning to the mountains, this gathering is a beautiful moment to celebrate renewal, new beginnings, and the rhythms that connect us to one another and to the earth.
Drums will be provided, and no prior experience is needed. You are welcome to bring your own drum or noisemaker if you wish, but all you truly need to bring is a heart for community connection. All skill levels are welcome.
We ask everyone to bring a potluck dish and place it in the kitchen before choosing a drum for the evening. As the drum circle concludes at 5:00 PM, we will come together to enjoy a shared feast created from the offerings of our community.

Peace Pole Renewal Ceremony
Peace Pole Renewal Ceremony & Time Capsule Installation
Sunday, May 3rd | Terra Nova Center
For over 25 years, a Peace Pole has stood as a quiet but powerful symbol here at Terra Nova Center—rooted in our earlier home in Charlotte and connected to the global Peace Pole movement. Bearing the message “May Peace Prevail On Earth,” it has served as a steady prayer for unity, healing, and peace on this land.
At this time, our original Peace Pole has reached the end of its life, and we are being called to renew it. On Sunday, May 3rd, during our regular service time, we will gather for a special ceremony to remove and replace the Peace Pole together. This will be a meaningful moment of recommitment—an opportunity to come together as a community and set fresh intention for the times we are living in.
Time Capsule Invitation
The new Peace Pole includes space for a small time capsule. We invite you to bring a small item, note, or memento to be placed inside—something that represents your prayers, intentions, or this moment in time. Items must be able to fit through an opening roughly the size of a juice or 2-liter bottle.
Event Details
Please park at the Lighthouse Chapel. We will gather and begin at the Friendship Garden, where the ceremony will take place.
Looking Ahead
This new Peace Pole carries languages from around the world, reflecting a shared prayer for peace across all people. As part of this next chapter, we are also working toward placing an additional Peace Pole at the lake altar. We’ve already reached about one-third of that goal. If you feel moved to contribute, support is welcome as we continue this work.
More about the Peace Pole movement can be found here:
https://www.worldpeace.org/peacepoleproject/
We hope you’ll join us for this moment of renewal, remembrance, and intention.
May Peace Prevail On Earth.
Full Moon/May Day Sweat Lodge
Sweat Lodge Ceremony
Hosted at Terra Nova Center
Terra Nova Center welcomes participants to take part in a traditional Sweat Lodge Ceremony, held on the land in a spirit of respect, cultural awareness, and community presence.
This ceremony is led by Yona FrenchHawk, a Cherokee Wisdom Keeper who carries this tradition with humility and integrity. The Sweat Lodge is a ceremonial structure representing the womb of Mother Earth — a place of purification, reflection, renewal, and reconnection to the natural world. Participants enter the lodge together in community, engaging in an ancient practice that honors the elements, the Earth, and the shared human journey. It is a traditional ceremonial experience rooted in Indigenous wisdom and held with respect for the lineage it comes from.
Full Moon Alignment
This ceremony is held in alignment with the Full Moon — a time traditionally associated with illumination, release, and the culmination of cycles. The Full Moon offers a powerful energetic space to bring awareness to what has come to fruition, to give thanks, and to release what is no longer aligned. Participants are invited to enter the lodge with openness and honesty, allowing what has been hidden to come into the light and be transformed through prayer, heat, and intention.
The day unfolds in three distinct parts:
Fire Ceremony - The sacred fire is built and tended. The stones that will be used in the lodge are heated in preparation. Participants are warmly encouraged to arrive early and be present for this portion of the ceremony, supporting the fire and the space as the foundation for the lodge is prepared. Start Time: 2:30 PM
Sweat Lodge - Participants gather at the lodge and enter together for the central ceremonial experience. The lodge is a heat-intensive environment designed to support purification, grounding, and connection to sacred traditions and nature. Start Time: 4:30 PM
Feast - Following the lodge, the community gathers for a shared meal. Participants bring a dish to contribute. The feast is a time of integration, fellowship, and gratitude. Start Time: appox. 6:45 PM
Participants are welcome to attend any or all portions of the day. However, all those intending to enter the Sweat Lodge must arrive no later than 3:15 PM in order to properly prepare and receive orientation.
Participants will gather at the Lighthouse Chapel before walking approximately 5–10 minutes to the lodge site. The ceremony area is near the Medicine Wheel and other sacred spaces on the land. We ask that all participants move through these areas with mindfulness and respect.
Overnight Lodging & Camping
Overnight lodging and camping are available at Terra Nova Center when vacancies exist. Those traveling from a distance or wishing to remain on the land after the ceremony are welcome to inquire about accommodations. Please contact Terra Nova Center directly to check availability and make arrangements at 828-862-5909.
What to Expect
A structured, traditional ceremonial environment
A communal experience rooted in Indigenous practice
Periods of heat, darkness, silence, and shared reflection
Time outdoors on the land in all weather conditions
A shared meal following the ceremony
Participation requires presence, openness, and attentiveness to guidance provided by the ceremonialist.
What to Bring
Water bottle
Towel
Blanket or mat
Modest, comfortable clothing appropriate for high heat
Change of clothes for after ceremony
A potluck dish to share for the feast
Crystals, stones, or sacred objects you wish to place on the altar to be charged during the ceremony
Participants are welcome to bring crystals, stones, or meaningful sacred items to place upon the altar during the ceremony. These items will remain outside the lodge and may be energetically charged through the presence of the fire, prayers, and collective intention held throughout the day. Items may be retrieved following the ceremony to be kept on personal altars or carried forward as part of your ongoing practice.
Please do not bring:
Phones, cameras, or recording devices
Alcohol or intoxicants
Heavy meals immediately before the lodge
Synthetic clothing that may be uncomfortable in high heat
Health & Safety
The Sweat Lodge is a physically demanding, heat-intensive ceremonial experience. Individuals who are pregnant or who have cardiovascular, respiratory, or other medical conditions that may be impacted by heat should consult a medical professional before participating.
Participation is voluntary. Individuals are encouraged to listen to their bodies and step out if necessary. All participants are strongly encouraged to consume only light meals and to stay well hydrated throughout the day of the ceremony in preparation for the heat-intensive environment of the lodge.
Suggested Offering
A suggested donation of $40 is offered to support the Ceremonialist and should be given directly to Yona on the day of ceremony. Donations to Terra Nova Center are also welcome. Contributions to the Center help sustain the land, facilities, and continued offering of traditional ceremonial spaces.
Traditional offerings such as sacred medicines, stones, or meaningful objects may be brought if desired and may be respectfully gifted to the Ceremonialist, offered to the fire tender, or placed upon the altar. Participants are also welcome to bring personal items they feel called to have present within the ceremonial space and may retrieve those items afterward for placement on their home altars or personal sacred spaces.

Full Moon Sweat Lodge
Start Time: 5:30 PM
Sweat Lodge - Participants gather at the lodge and enter together for the central ceremonial experience. The lodge is a heat-intensive environment designed to support purification, grounding, and connection to sacred traditions and nature. Start Time: 7:30 PM
Feast - Following the lodge, the community gathers for a shared meal. Participants bring a dish to contribute. The feast is a time of integration, fellowship, and gratitude. Start Time: appox. 6:15 PM
Participants are welcome to attend any or all portions of the day. However, all those intending to enter the Sweat Lodge must arrive no later than 6:15 PM in order to properly prepare and receive orientation.

Weekend of Peace
A Weekend of Mindfulness & Meditation
with Ajahn Maha Dam of Walk for Peace and fellow Monastics
Join us for a quiet, intimate weekend gathering over the 4th of July, guided by Buddhist monks rooted in presence, compassion, and loving-kindness.
Throughout the weekend, we will share in walking and sitting meditation, listen to Dharma talks, and enjoy meals together. There will be ample opportunity for questions for the monks around the campfire.
This is a smaller, intentional gathering—designed to offer a supportive and peaceful environment for those seeking stillness, reflection, and deeper connection.
Terra Nova Center provides the perfect setting for this work. Our 200-acre mountain retreat offers a deeply supportive and naturally beautiful space where each person can slow down, breathe, and come back to themselves alongside others doing the same.
This is primarily a camping retreat, with participants invited to stay on the land and immerse themselves in the natural setting. A very limited number of indoor lodging spaces are available and are reserved for elders and those with mobility needs. Guests are welcome to arrive and set up camp on Thursday, with the retreat beginning Friday morning.
As this is an intentionally held gathering, we invite those who feel called to participate to complete the expression of interest on our registration page at www.terranovacenter.org/weekendofpeace. Additional information will be sent to attendees who complete the expression of interest and are invited to attend the gathering in the coming weeks.

New Moon Sweat Lodge
New Moon Alignment
This ceremony is held in alignment with the New Moon — a time traditionally associated with introspection, renewal, and the planting of new intentions. The New Moon offers a powerful energetic space to release what no longer serves and to consciously call in what is ready to emerge. Participants are invited to enter the lodge with clarity of heart, honoring both release and intention as part of this sacred cycle.
- Start Time: 5:00 PM
Sweat Lodge - Participants gather at the lodge and enter together for the central ceremonial experience. The lodge is a heat-intensive environment designed to support purification, grounding, and connection to sacred traditions and nature. Start Time: 7:00 PM
Feast - Following the lodge, the community gathers for a shared meal. Participants bring a dish to contribute. The feast is a time of integration, fellowship, and gratitude. Start Time: approx. 9:15 PM
Participants are welcome to attend any or all portions of the day. However, all those intending to enter the Sweat Lodge must arrive no later than 5:45 PM in order to properly prepare and receive orientation.

CANCELED: Easter Sunrise Sweat Lodge & Community Gathering
Easter Weekend Community Gathering & Sweat Lodge Ceremony
Hosted at Terra Nova Center
We are honored to invite you to a deeply special Easter weekend on the mountain—an immersive, two-day community gathering rooted in connection, ceremony, and renewal. This experience is intentionally open and flexible. You are welcome to join us for any or all parts of the weekend—whether that is the community potluck, storytelling and songs around the bonfire, overnight camping, or the full Easter Sunrise Sweat Lodge Ceremony.
If you feel led, we invite you to arrive the day before and settle into the land. Camping and on-site lodging are available, including individual guest suites. We also have a limited number of volunteer opportunities available for those who feel called to exchange service for their stay. Please fill out the form at the bottom of this page or call us at (828) 862-5909 or email us at info@terranovacenter.org to reserve your stay.
Saturday, April 4 — Community Gathering
We ask all participants to arrive and check in between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm, either to their lodging or to set up camp. At 5:30 pm, we will begin our time together with a community potluck, gathering in shared nourishment and fellowship as we arrive on the land.
As evening unfolds, we will move to the lake. At 7:00 pm, we will light a bonfire by the lake, opening the space for connection, reflection, and shared presence. At 8:00 pm, we will gather around the fire for an evening of Cherokee storytelling and song sharing with Yona Frenchhawk. Together, we will sit in community—listening, sharing, and honoring the stories and songs that connect us across time. As part of this sacred evening, participants will also be honored with a special fire performance on the beach by James Graham, woven into the rhythm of the fire gathering. Participants are welcome to stay by the fire as long as they feel called. As the fire winds down, we will return to our accommodations to rest before the early morning ceremony.
Sunday, April 5 — Easter Sunrise Ceremony
Participants are asked to arrive at the chapel between 3:00 am and 3:45 am. At 3:45 am, the final transport will depart for the Sweat Lodge. We will enter the lodge in darkness and emerge together at sunrise. Following the ceremony, we will return to the chapel for a breakfast-style potluck to begin Easter Sunday in community. Please bring a breakfast item and drop it off at the chapel before departing for the lodge. This is a gathering we feel deeply grateful to host on the land—a space to move through darkness into light, together.

We are excited to gather on Sunday, March 22nd, from 3:00–5:00 PM for our Whole Life Rhythm Community Drum Circle, followed by a shared community potluck feast.

Sweat Lodge
Sweat Lodge - Participants gather at the lodge and enter together for the central ceremonial experience. The lodge is a heat-intensive environment designed to support purification, grounding, and connection to sacred traditions and nature.
Feast - Following the lodge, the community gathers for a shared meal. Participants bring a dish to contribute they can leave in the Chapel prior to lodge. The feast is a time of integration, fellowship, and gratitude.
Participants are welcome to attend any or all portions of the day. However, all those intending to enter the Sweat Lodge must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled lodge start time in order to properly prepare and receive orientation.

Drums and Dinner - Community Drum Circle
Drums and Dinner: Let’s Play the Beats and Have Good Eats!
Hosted by Whole Life Rhythm
During the winter months, our weekly community drum circle shifts into a once-a-month gathering, making these mid-winter circles especially meaningful. They offer a chance to reconnect, warm one another, and stay rooted in rhythm and community as we move toward the return of spring.
We are excited to gather again on Sunday, February 22nd, from 3:00–5:00 PM for our Whole Life Rhythm Community Drum Circle, followed by a shared community potluck feast.
This gathering marks the halfway point between winter and spring—a time of transition, renewal, and coming together in warmth and connection.
Drums will be provided, and no prior experience is needed. You are welcome to bring your own drum or noisemaker if you’d like, but all you truly need to bring is a heart for community connection. All skill levels are invited to join in.
We ask everyone to bring a potluck dish and place it in the kitchen before choosing a drum for the evening. As our drum circle concludes at 5:00 PM, we will come together to enjoy a beautiful shared feast made from the offerings of our community.
